Update: I broke down and just bought a new gas oven. First brand new large appliance I’ve ever purchased. Hopefully it works well for a long time lol.

Looking for oven recommendations. We currently have a gas oven that stops working every single freaking Thankgiving and magically starts working again in the spring. I dunno if it hates holidays or what. I have a turkey 3/4 the way thawed in my fridge so I’m gonna need a replacement by Monday 😒

Also, how difficult would it be to switch to an electric one?

Good luck finding appliances in stock now. Also you will need a new dedicated plug. I think its a 50 amp not sure

I would imagine this has to do with the temperature change outside, have you checked the thermostat and or made sure everything is clean to flow?

For electric you need a 220 plug to run it. If you have a range you could also do a dual fuel range that runs gas on top and electric for the oven

You may just need a part. I got one for my oven for $80 and my husband put it in. My oven wouldn’t work if I had the central air on.

Do you have different bake settings? Like convection? Does using different settings keep it going? Maybe there’s a leak and it shuts down for safety? Maybe try your gas company and see if they can come out to test for a leak.

The broiler works. But no settings other than that

The gas stovetop works as well. Only the oven goes out

I just got a new oven from home depot. I don’t know if you’ll get it delivered by Monday, but you might be able to pick one up.
I wanted to switch from gas to electric, but we didn’t have the right kind of outlet. It would have cost at least a few hundred dollars to hire a electrician to replace it.

Seems like something to do with temperature. Thermocouple issue. Is there a way to get the inside of the oven warmed up and then try to light it?

If you have the room in your electrical panel it’s not that difficult to run the wire and hook everything up.

A good cleaning, new parts and making sure the regulator isn’t seizing up due to a leak or placement and you shouldn’t have that problem.

Have you added either appliances since the stove was installed? If so the load might be off if you’re trying to run a furnace, dec stove and a cook stove for instance

Cook the turkey in advance to put smart the oven

Cool the Turkey in one of those giant electric roaster ovens. That’s what we do every year. It frees up oven space anyway and does a good job.

Make sure there is a drip leg on the line coming in to your stove and the orifices are keeping cleaned out

Electric roaster is what I would buy just in case it won’t be there in time

My preference is gas stovetop and electric oven.

Electric roaster as a standby. They are not real expensive at wallmarts. Put water between insert and pan. People forget. The stem helps keeo it tender.
