Alright people, I seem to be getting mildew over and over around this time of year. Last year I cleaned it and sprayed some chemicals on it, but seems we still have an issue. To my knowledge there is no leak under the house, but I haven’t been under in a month or so. This problem seems to crop up around the start of summer. Last picture is a closet in the kitchen. Ceilings are 9.5 feet. Any thoughts on why? And who I can call to fix the actual problem, not put a band aid on it. Thanks!
I would think you would have to make sure there is no water getting in.
If no water, it is likely getting entirely too hot in there. Make sure you keep the home in the low 70’s.
Anything in the high 70’s or more (OR too much humidity) will cause this.
Until you find the source of moisture, you will have this problem. Is it possible that there is something in the attic that moisture can condense on and drip to the ceiling??
Once you get rid of the source, get some mildewcide bathroom paint and repaint the areas.
If this is in the ceilings only, and it looks like it is, then the source of the problem is most likely above these spot – in the attic. If it only happens this time of year, it seems logical it has to do with something you do differently at this time of year. What could that be? Something that is causing moisture to collect and reactive this mildew/mold. Do you have A/C in your hours? Just trying to think of what could be causing moisture to collect. What part of the country are you in? Sadly, not all chemical mildew / mold sprays work as well as they should, or even work at all. There is crap on the market that only temporarily gets rid of it, and it comes back since it wasn’t killed, just stunted in growing. There is also a lot of bad advice on the web…. like using bleach, which does not work on porous surfaces.
